#7

Alyssa and I had come home early after the game. Although she informed me I was going to meet her parents today, she had left out where they lived. After the game she decided to let me know I would be driving around Maryland Heights... about 5 hours away.
It was almost 10am and we were planning on leaving in a couple hours, to be there before supper.
Alyssa was heading back to her apartment to grab any left other things; she was subletting for the remainder of her lease, and the people were moving in on Wednesday. The phone rang as she was putting her hand on the doorknob to leave. She turned and answered it.

"Hello? Who are you looking for? Oh no, this is the right number. I live here... yes. I'm his girlfriend. Sure, here he is." She handed me the phone and gave me a peek on the cheek before continuing out the door with my car keys.

"Hello?" I asked as I watched her leave, hmmm never noticed how nice her ass was before...

"Anything you'd like to tell me?" My dad's voice strained over the line.

"Uhh... I have a girlfriend and she lives with me...?" It came out more as a question than a statement.

"Were you planning on tell us this anytime soon?" He asked, I could hear my mom in the background now.

"Ugh! Yes alright, just tell mom to stay calm. I met this girl Alyssa, we started dating and she moved in. Not a big deal!"

"How long have you been dating her?!" My mom was on the line too now.

"Ummm... like, 2 days..."

"What?! How long have you known her for?"

"Like... 3 days..." This was sounding worse and worse.

"What's her name Patrick?" My dad asked through my mom's rantings.

"Alyssa... umm... Alyssa something..." Shit I didn't even know that.

"Well tell us something about her? What does she do? Where's she from?"

"Uh... she's hot...?" I stopped talking. Judging by the lack of response they needed more than that, "and... her parents live in Maryland Heights. We're going there tonight for supper."

"Well you can just come here tomorrow night for supper than!" My mom finished, leaving no room for debate.

I tried anyway, "Mom! That's like 8, 9 hours away! I have to drive 10 hours tonight!"

"Well then it's lucky you like driving so much isn't it?"

"I don't like dri-"

"No excuses Patrick! A girl, living with you... you hardly know her! Please tell me you're not sleeping with her?!"

The phone was silent and I heard my dad chuckle, mom mom started yelling again. "I said tell me you're not sleeping with her!"

"Umm... well mom..." I began, not sure how to continue.

"Is this how you met her?"

"Yes."

"At a bar?"

"Yes."

"And you took her home and slept with her... and she never left?!"

"Ah... pretty much yah."

My dad was laughing hysterically at this point, my mom was flipping out.

"That was some sex!" My dad said through his chuckles.

Mom reprimanded him, "This is so not funny!"

"Ah... I gotta get ready to though so... I guess I'll see you tomorrow..." My dad said goodbye back, and I hung up on my mom who was still yell ling; more so at my dad than me now though.

I showered and dressed in a light blue, button-down shirt and a pair of tan dress pants; before taking a seat on the edge of the bed and waiting for Alyssa to get home.
I was a wreck. I had never done the girlfriend thing before, especially never the 'meet-the-parents' thing. It also wasn't helping my nerves to know that her parents would probably ask the same questions as mine; and her being their daughter... I was probably in for a long night.
I really wanted to make a good impression, I wasn't sure why. I couldn't decide if it was for my own ego, my confidence or because I was starting to like Alyssa; that I needed her parents to like me.

I was pacing in the living when Alyssa came back in. "Nervous?" She giggled as she reached out and pulled me into a hug. "Don't be, they'll love you." She grabbed my hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze as I followed her out the door and out to my SUV.

It was official, her parents loved me. As soon as we arrived her mother pulled me into a hug and started jabbering away to me. Her father shook my hand and welcomed me into their home.
Her parents were not at all what I had expected, but then again, I hadn't spent alot of time wondering what they'd be like. Her father was older, much older; early sixties maybe. Her mother - who turned out to be a step-mother - looked to be about 30. Their house was huge.
Dinner was easy, and I enjoyed myself. Her father, Doug, was a huge sports fan and her step-mother, Carol, could talk about anything to anyone.

After supper Alyssa and her step-mom did the dishes, leaving me some time to explore Doug's office with him. He had the most amazing collect of hockey memorabilia I had ever seen.
There was autographed jersey and pictures, photos of him with everyone who ever mattered to the game.
After spending a few minutes walking around the room, I was behind Doug's desk; looking at the framed pictures there.
Unlike the photos on the walls, these were not of famous hockey players or moments. They were of Alyssa; growing up.
There was one of her on a pony, one of her jumping horses. Pictures of her at prom, and childhood ones; of her with a pretty red-headed women that I assumed was her late mother.

"Something else, isn't she?" Doug said startling me.

"Oh... yah... is that her mom?" I asked, pointing to a picture of Alyssa as a toddler; her arms wrapped around the woman's neck.

"Yes, Anna. She passed away from Breast Cancer when Alyssa was 7."

"I'm sorry." I wasn't sure what else to say. We stood in silence for a while, looking at the pictures.

"So... you're stealing my baby girl away." He sighed after a bit.

"Uh... I don't want to do that... that's not-"

He laughed and slapped me in the arm, "I'm just kidding. It's hard though, you're the only boy she's ever brought home so... I'm assuming it's serious. She said she was living with you too. Are you in love with her?"

His question caught me off guard and I wasn't sure what to say. "Well... I care about her, and I know I can look after her... it's too soon for me to honestly answer that... sorry..."

"Nonsense!" He slapped me again. "I respect your honesty, of course it's too soon... but, now I know I can trust you."

Alyssa gave me a tour of her house; it was very modern and extravagant, the type of home I would want to own. She lead me upstairs and showed me the view from her parent's balcony. There was a large pool in the back yard, and the yard was landscaped perfectly. She told me stories about the times her friends and her would jump off the balcony into the water. It was a high jump; I was fairly impressed.
We passed a door that said 'Alyssa' on it, and I stopped, expecting to go in.

"Ahh... oh no! Please, let's not do this?" She whined, tugging on my arm as I pushed the door open.

I couldn't help but burst out laughing. There was a large poster of me in my Team USA jersey, plastered over her four-post bed. "Always been a Kaner fan then?" I said through the tears that were streaming down my face.

"Ugh! I'm never gonna live this down am I?" She moved to pull the poster down, but I followed, grabbing her wrists before she could reach it. I wrestled her down onto her bed, sealing my win with a long kiss.
Soon enough things were getting heated and I pulled back. "Save it till we get home?" I asked, my voice was husky and I tried not to remind myself that we had a 5 hour drive back.

She pouted and pulled me back down. "Too long..."

"Your parents..." I said between kisses.

"Are on the other side of the house." She finished. That didn't seem that reassuring so I tried pulling away again.

"But they like me and I'd like to keep it that way."

She smiled up at me, allowing me to move back. "Why does it matter so much?"

"I don't know... it doesn't really." I shrugged, trying to sort out my thoughts. "I guess, I just like you... so I want them to like me too..." I felt like an idiot but she seemed happy enough. She reaffirmed her grip on the back of my head and pulled me down once more.
This time she didn't take no for answer and I forced her off the bed and onto the floor; terrified of being over-heard.

The drive back home was silent; Alyssa fell asleep, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
For some reason meeting her parents, seeing the room she grew up in, and the pictures of her as a child had changed my view on her alot. She wasn't just some chick at a bar. She was someone's daughter.

When I pulled into my parking spot I looked over, she was still asleep. I got out of the SUV and walked around to her door; lifting her out and kicking the door shut behind me.
I carried her into my apartment and laid her down on the bed; the clock said 1:48am. I sighed and started to undress, crawling into bed beside her. I shifted her small frame until she was curled in tightly next to me.
Today had been a very strange day; things had turned out alot differently than I had imagined. I drifted off to sleep thinking about what would happen tomorrow; finding myself hoping my parents were going to approve.

  1. And just as Kaner's day didn't turn out the way he had expected, this post wasn't what I expected either. But, not in a bad way at all! I'm a little curious about Alyssa now though... is she a stalker? Or just really really lucky to meet her favorite hockey player? Hm....

    Great chapter, Zigh!
